3 Signs You Need To Replace The Toilet

For the most part, problems with the toilet go unnoticed unless there’s a clog or it continually runs. However, toilets can develop problems that aren’t as noticeable, but still need attention. Here are three subtle problems that mean the toilet probably needs to be replaced:

  1. Cracks in the Tank

One of the signs of a cracked tank is water on the floor. There’s a very simple way for homeowners to check for a crack. Put dye in the tank and wait. It will discolor the crack as it seeps through, and the dyed water will be seen on the floor. This means a new tank is needed. If the dye ends up in the toilet bowl it also indicates a leak usually in the seal inside the tank. This can cause the toilet to use more water than it should.

  1. Cracks in the Bowl

If there is odorous water around the base of the toilet, but the toilet seems to be functioning normally, it could be a sign of a crack in the bowl. To find the crack, the toilet will need to be removed. All Star Plumbing and Restoration can assist in finding the crack and replacing the bowl if it is cracked.

  1. Mineral Deposits

As the toilet ages, mineral deposits can collect around any opening through which water passes. The inlet holes around the rim of the bowl often get blocked by these mineral deposits. These blockages reduce flow into the tank and cause incomplete flushes. This creates leakage into the bowl and wasted water. If the deposits are extensive, it’s easier to replace the toilet than try to remove them.

If homeowners are noticing any water on the floor around the base of the toilet, or it just isn’t working properly, it’s time to call All Star Plumbing and Restoration.
